South Africa great AB de Villiers has backed his former Royal Challengers Bengaluru teammate Virat Kohli to be at his usual best in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, starting in Chennai on Friday. The 35-year-old Kohli has not played competitive cricket in almost two months after opting out of the recently-concluded Test series against England at home, which India won 4-1 because of the birth of son, Akaay. De Villiers termed Kohli's IPL career as "incredible" after the star India batter holds the highest run-scorer feat in the event, amassing 7,263 runs in 200 matches.
Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma - the buildup to the IPL 2024 for five-time champions Mumbai Indians has been all about these two players. Following a highly debated captaincy change, the two players came face to face for the first time this season. A video new Mumbai Indians' (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya hugging former captain Rohit Sharma during the team's training session has gone viral on social media. In the clip shared by MI on social media, Hardik could be spotted reaching out to Rohit and hugging him. The short clip later shows both the players having some fun moments together.
Mumbai Indians (MI) youngsters Tilak Varma and Dewald Brevis were seen smashing the ball hard during net practice at the Wankhade Stadium ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The Mumbai-based franchise shared a small clip of the youngsters' attacking style from the net sessions on their official social media handle. In November last year, Pandya moved back from Gujarat Titans (GT) to his former franchise as part of a trade between both franchises. The star all-rounder spent two years with GT, spearheading their campaign in the cash-rich league with aplomb.
Returning to "IPL circus" after almost a decade, Australian left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc bowled with the new ball, and took some hits from Rinku Singh at the death during Kolkata Knight Riders' second warm-up match at Eden Gardens on Tuesday. The Aussie, who last played in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014 and 2015, was bought by KKR ahead of IPL 2018 but an injury had ruled him out of that season. The Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise broke the all-time auction record this year to buy him at a price tag of Rs 24.75-crore to bolster their pace attack that had lacked sting in the recent past. "It's always a bit of a circus when it is the best T20 league in the world. It's definitely a new challenge. Yeah, it's going to be exciting. So, yeah I look forward to it," Starc told cricket.com.au.
Ianis Hagi reminded the Romanian media what he's got when he turned up to training like a man possessed - and his dad Gheorghe says his career at Rangers is FAR from over.
Indian cricket team star batter Virat Kohli received a rousing ovation from the fans during the RCB Unbox event at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Tuesday ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Kohli has been a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise since the first IPL season back in 2008 and over the years, the fans honoured him with the nickname 'King Kohli'. However, during the event, Kohli asked the host Danish Sait and the fans to not call him 'king' as he feels embarrassed every time he hears it and even revealed a conversation with Faf du Plessis about the topic.
Professional boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr on Monday said he is eager to participate in an exhibition fight in India this year and the possibility of an opponent from the host nation cannot be ruled out. The 47-year-old former boxing champion boasts of a perfect 50-0 record in the professional circuit, which includes 27 knockouts. "It's possible. I look forward to having an exhibition over here in 2024. We are looking for a solid name as a solid opponent," Mayweather told PTI over phone from Mumbai. "I'm pretty sure that I'll find the right opponent. It's all about taking things to the next level, with all the amazing people here anything is possible," he added. Asked if he would be open to taking on a challenger from India, Mayweather replied in the affirmative.
