LONDON : Highlights of the first day at the Wimbledon tennis championships on Monday (times GMT):
Tina Malone has said she speaks to her late husband every day and that she can still feel his "presence" in her home following his death earlier this year. The former Shameless star, 61, announced in March that Paul Chase had died, later confirming he took his own life after suffering depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder related to his time in the army.
DORTMUND, Germany : The Netherlands had their travel to Dortmund on Tuesday for the European Championship semi-final against England disrupted and were forced to abandon their original plans to travel by train, the Dutch football association (KNVB) said.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As Gregg Berhalter addressed the media Monday in the wake of the United States men's national soccer team's 1-0 loss to Uruguay, a result that eliminated it from the 2024 Copa América in the group stage, he was asked if he was the right voice and the right person to lead the Americans into the 2026 World Cup.
LAS VEGAS — Brazil coach Dorival Junior said he takes «full responsibility» for his team's underwhelming Copa América quarterfinal exit after losing to 10-man Uruguay 4-2 in a penalty shootout on Saturday.
LONDON : The Wimbledon women's singles final between Italy's seventh seed Jasmine Paolini and 31st seeded Czech Barbora Krejcikova takes place at the All England Club on Saturday. The men's and women's doubles finals are also taking place.
Donna Vekic said the lesson was to "never give up" after overcoming dark times to reach her first Grand Slam semi-final at Wimbledon on Tuesday. The Croatian won 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 to end the fairytale run of New Zealand qualifier Lulu Sun and will face Italian seventh seed Jasmine Paolini or US 19th seed Emma Navarro for a place in Saturday's final. Vekic, 28, had knee surgery at the start of 2021, and suffered further setbacks into the follow season, which she described as "very tough". Even this year, before the French Open, she was tempted to take a break from the tour. "I didn't have any energy, any motivation to keep practising, keep pushing because I felt like the last couple of months I've given everything for tennis, and I wasn't getting the results that I kind of expected," she said.
Ace Indian cueist Pankaj Advani fell short in his quest to secure a hat-trick of titles, losing 2-5 to compatriot Dhruv Sitwala in the final of the 2024 Asian Billiards Championship here on Saturday. Dhruv set the tone for the match with an impressive start, scoring 103 points, while Advani struggled to get on the board, finishing with no points. Advani managed to improve his game, scoring 36 points, but Dhruv maintained his dominance with another 100. Advani found his rhythm in the third frame and outplayed Dhruv, achieving a remarkable 101. Dhruv, however, had an off-frame, scoring only two points.
