Matthews eats humble pie before celebrating Team Europe's defence of Collins Cup title

Kat Matthews admitted she had to eat humble pie before cracking open the champagne after slipping to personal defeat amid team glory as Europe retained their title at triathlon's Collins Cup. Lawrence gets revenge and banishes crash demons in Team Europe's defence of Collins Cup title

Holly Lawrence revealed she was stoked after claiming personal revenge and banishing her crash demons to help Team Europe retain triathlon's Collins Cup. The slippery Slovakian conditions in 2021 saw Lawrence hit the deck on the bike, allowing Team International's Ellie Salthouse to get the win but on Saturday the Brit avenged that result by finishing the 100km course four-and-a-half minutes faster than her Australian nemesis.

Iden hails impact of lucky Taiwanese hat at Collins Cup

Sporting greats are used to freebies but triathlon star Gustav Iden admits the lucky Taiwanese hat he found on the floor is his secret weapon at the PTO's Collins Cup. Norwegian Iden, the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) world No.2, picked up the black cap with gold writing at the Tokyo 2020 test event before deciding to wear it at the Nice Ironman in 2019 to stand out from his competitors who were clad head to toe in sponsored gear. Ad Iden raced to victory on that occasion and has reeled off a string of wins while wearing it since, the latest coming at the PTO's Canadian Open in Edmonton last month where he scooped the top $100,000 prize ahead of Olympic gold medallist Kristian Blummenfelt, his compatriot and training partner.

Holland admits Collins Cup could motivate triathlon return post-pregnancy

Olympic bronze medallist Vicky Holland admitted the lure of competing at the Collins Cup could be enough to see her return to triathlon after giving birth. Gloucester's Holland, 36, became the first British woman to make the Olympic triathlon podium with bronze at Rio 2016 and, after finishing 13th at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games, fell pregnant earlier this year. Ad Holland confessed her future is up in the air but speaking in Samorin ahead of Saturday's Collins Cup — triathlon's answer to golf's Ryder Cup — said the progressive Professional Triathletes Organisation's (PTO) policies and prize money could drag her outside her short-distance specialism after becoming a mother.
