KARACHI, Pakistan : Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat in the second test against Pakistan at Karachi's National Stadium on Saturday.
After an exhausting draw in the first Test, Australia and Pakistan can set up the series with victory in the second game in Karachi.
England will look to defy a placid pitch and push for victory in the first Test against the West Indies after a long-awaited century from Zak Crawley steered them away from danger.
Already fatigued after a whirlwind season that saw his team criss-cross the globe, Brad Gushue's rink was dealt a lineup blow Friday when Mark Nichols pulled out of the Tim Hortons Brier due to a positive COVID-19 test.
Zak Crawley and a confident captain's knock by Joe Root lifted England into a commanding position, 153 runs ahead in their second innings after day four of the first Test against West Indies on Friday. Crawley (117) and Root (84) scored freely for an unbeaten 193-run second-wicket partnership, pushing England to 217 for one in North Sound on the island of Antigua, where stumps were drawn early due to a late afternoon tropical downpour. While a draw is still probably the most likely result, the partnership all but eliminated any chance of a West Indies victory barring an extremely bold declaration by Root early on the final day. England, however, will be disappointed to have lost more than 23 overs because of the rain. After West Indies scored at a snail's pace in eking out a 64-run first innings lead, England quickly wiped out the deficit, playing with intent rather than simply trying to occupy the crease.
India face Sri Lanka in the second Test match of their two-game series on Friday, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In what will also be a day-night affair, the Bengaluru Test has also been allowed to have 100 percent crowd capacity by the state association due to a decline in Covid-19 cases. India won the first Test match by an innings and 222 runs with Ravindra Jadeja smashing a ton and also took nine wickets in the match. The all-rounder ended up winning the Man of the Match award for his display. India will be aiming for a clean sweep in the second Test. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will be hoping to end the series on a positive note.
PAK vs AUS, 2nd Test, Live Updates: Pakistan face Australia in the second Test at the National Stadium in Karachi. After the first Test ended in a dead-rubber, both teams will look to register a win ahead of the final Test in Lahore. Imam-ul-Haq was the star of the show with the bat as the Pakistan opener scored a century each in both the innings. Azhar Ali also scored a mammoth knock of 175 in the first innings while Abdullah Shafique scored his maiden Test ton in the second innings. It was a difficult outing for the bowlers, except Nauman Ali, who took six wickets in Australia's first innings. Australia skipper Pat Cummins confirmed on the eve of the second Test that Queensland spinner Mitchell Swepson will make his Test debut in Karachi. He will replace Josh Hazlewood in the playing XI. Chasing an elusive international hundred for 28 months now, Virat Kohli would hope for a turnaround at his 'spiritual home' when India take on an under-prepared and injury-hit Sri Lanka in the second Test, with the action unfolding under flood lights, in Bengaluru from Saturday. Interestingly, the last time Kohli reached a three-figure mark, it was a 'Pink Ball' game in which India thrashed Bangladesh by an innings and 46 runs in Kolkata, back in November 2019. He had scored 136 back then. The former India skipper has taken strike in 28 innings since then but a Test hundred has remained elusive. The 33-year-old has got a 50-plus score only six times with highest being a knock of 79 against South Africa in Cape Town in January this year.
