Hardik Pandya the stand-in captain in India's ODI series against Australia has revealed that he won't be taking part in the World Test Championship final. Hardik Pandya has not played Test cricket for India since September 2018 and has been limited to only playing white-ball cricket due to constant injuries especially back injuries. However, with India qualifying for the World Test Championship, he was asked ahead of the first ODI against Australia if he would be ready to don the whites again for the one-off game at The Oval.
India qualified for the World Test Championship (WTC) final after winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1 at home and the Rohit Sharma-led side will be facing Australia once again in the summit clash at the Oval in June. The qualification went down to the wire as India were held to a draw in the final game of the four-match series and New Zealand defeated the other contender – Sri Lanka – by 2 wickets. The Indian cricketers will now be busy with the Indian Premier League (IPL) and several experts have expressed their doubt on how they would be able to re-adapt to Test cricket. The Indian cricket team has qualified for the World Test Championship final with a 2-1 victory over Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the summit clash, India will play Australia again, with the game scheduled to be held at the Oval in London in June. Hardik Pandya, who hasn't played a Test match for India since August 2018, was asked about making it to the final in a press conference on Thursday. The all-rounder ruled himself out, suggesting it would not be 'ethical' for him to be selected for the match as he hasn't 'earned' his spot.
Sri Lanka and New Zealand regroup again after seeing the first Test between them ending in a thrilling win for the hosts. Kane Williamson hit the winning runs for the Kiwis in the match on the last delivery of the match, putting his side 1-0 ahead while also knocking the Lankans out of the World Test Championship race. Sri Lanka, who had plenty of positives to take from the first Test, start the second and final match of the series hoping to put in a similar show, but end up on the winning side this time.
