Italy's Jasmine Paolini reached her first Wimbledon final with a stirring fightback to beat tearful Croatian Donna Vekic 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10/8) on Thursday in the longest women's semi-final at the All England Club.
LONDON : Players on the ATP Tour will have their towels served to them by ball kids once again after the Wimbledon championships, the men's association confirmed on Tuesday.
Defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz came close to relinquishing his crown against inspired American Frances Tiafoe but lived to fight another day with a 5-7 6-2 4-6 7-6(2) 6-2 victory on Centre Court on Friday.
LONDON : All a sobbing Donna Vekic could feel after the greatest performance of her career was pain, pain and even more pain -and there was nothing anyone could do or say to make her feel any better.
Not many players can boast victories over Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner but British rookie Jacob Fearnley has notched up that impressive double and now looks for a third in the shape of Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon. Fearnley's wins over reigning Wimbledon champion Alcaraz and world number one Sinner came in his junior days. Since then, their career paths have taken radically different directions -- Alcaraz and Sinner are winning Grand Slams and banking millions of dollars while Fearnley headed to university in the United States.
Australian Open champion and world number three Aryna Sabalenka withdrew from Wimbledon on Monday due to a shoulder injury, tournament organisers announced. Sabalenka, a two-time semi-finalist at the All England Club, is replaced in the draw by Russian lucky loser Erika Andreeva, who will face American qualifier Emina Bektas in the first round. Sabalenka, 26, had hinted at the weekend that she may be forced to pull out after suffering the injury at the recent Berlin tournament. "I'm not 100 percent fit now," admitted the Belarusian. When asked on Saturday if there was a chance she may withdraw, she said: "There is always a chance, yeah."
