Was forced to approach court: Manika Batra after Delhi HC suspends TTFI in fixing row

Manika Batra on Friday welcomed the Delhi High Court's order that effectively suspended the Table Tennis Federation of India following her petition, saying ill-treatment from TTFI forced her to take the legal route. Manika, who recently broke into the top-50 of world rankings, had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court after she was not included in the team for the Asian Championships. TTFI had excluded her as she did not attend the national camp before the event. "I've the greatest faith in the Indian Judiciary. I have devoted my life for sports to bring glory for my country. I'm grateful to the Govt of India, everyone who stood with me and the people of my country for the support I received," Manika said in a statement.

On Manika Batra's Petition, Delhi High Court Directs Appointment Of Administrator To Run Table Tennis Federation Of India

The Delhi High Court Friday directed the appointment of an administrator to run the Table Tennis Federation of India, saying that its faith was shaken in view of the sports body's “sorry state of affairs”. Justice Rekha Palli, who was dealing with the petition filed by the Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Khel Ratna awardee Manika Batra, said that the report of the three-member committee, constituted by it to look into the allegations of match-fixing levelled by the paddler, showed that TTFI “safeguarded the interests of its officials” and that “instead of promoting players, TTFI is dictating terms.” The judge said that this country takes pride in its sportsperson and people who don't understand how players are to be treated “should be out”.

IPL auction 2022: I have made more cricketers millionaires than anybody else, but the next IPL auctioneer should be an Indian, says auctioneer Richard Madley

Richard Madley from the IPL auctions? He hosted IPL auctions over a decade, from its opening edition in 2008 to 2018, after which he was replaced by Hugh Edmeades, the current IPL auctioneer. Madley, who became synonymous with the IPL auction, still has the gavel with him which he used for IPL auctions. He is currently an ECB Level-2 cricket umpire in the UK. With less than a day to go now for the IPL Mega Auction 2022, Madley spoke to TimesofIndia.com from England about his long association with the IPL auctions, some interesting facts, anecdotes, and much more... Excerpts....What have you been up to lately? What a pleasure it is to join you today. I'm in remarkably good health. The cricket season hasn't started yet. But I've retrained as an umpire. I'm an ECB Level-2 cricket umpire now. So, no longer playing. But I'm actually comparing umpiring with being an auctioneer, very similar, very similar attributes. I should be in control.
