LONDON : Emma Raducanu said she was going to "just rock up" at Wimbledon after her preparations were ravaged by injury but the British teenager was all business once she walked out on to Centre Court on Monday, showing steely determination and court craft.
Emma Raducanu made a surprising admission that she hadn't played any tennis for two weeks heading into Wimbledon. The 10th seed made her Centre Court debut on Monday and beat Alison Van Uytvanck 6-4 6-4 after an injury-stricken few weeks that saw her forced to retire just 33 minutes into her only grass match of the season. Tunisian third seed Ons Jabeur proved far too strong for Mirjam Bjorklund of Sweden, sweeping past the qualifier 6-1 6-3 to book her spot in the second round of Wimbledon. After reaching a career-high ranking of two in the world, 2021 quarter-finalist Jabeur served strongly and dominated from the baseline against Bjorklund, who made her debut at the grasscourt major this year.
