The Board For Cricket Control In India (BCCI) has approached former Indian cricket team batter Gautam Gambhir to replace Rahul Dravid as the national side's head coach, according to a report by ESPNCricinfo. Gambhir, who is currently the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024, is reportedly in the list of candidates that the BCCI is considering for the position. The report claims that the cricket governing body has reached out to him in order to understand his interest in the job and further discussions are expected after KKR's campaign ends in IPL 2024. Reports claim that Dravid has told BCCI that he will not be reapplying for the position and the deadline for applications is till May 27.
Former Indian cricket team star Robin Uthappa believes that senior players should have taken a back seat and India should have opted for young talents in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has now opened up on the T20 World Cup squad selection, saying players can't be picked purely on the basis of IPL form.
India will take on Bangladesh in their T20 World Cup warm-up fixture in the USA on June 1, the International Cricket Council announced on Friday. The venue and time of India's fixture is yet to be announced. Seventeen of the 20 teams will play warm-up games slated from May 27 till June 1 across the USA and Trinidad and Tobago, the ICC stated. South Africa will be playing an intra-squad match on May 29 in Florida.
