Sri Lanka Cricket on Thursday said its T20 league will go ahead with its full roster of matches and feature all five teams, a day after announcing that Dambulla Thunders franchise would be terminated due to its owner Tamim Rahman's arrest on suspicion of match-fixing. SLC announced that the franchise will have a new owner and the tournament will be held as planned from July 1 to 21. "The Lanka premiership league season 5 will continue with its full schedule and roster of matches featuring five teams," a release said.
Hardik Pandya remains the top-ranked Indian in the ICC ranking list for T20 all-rounders at number seven while Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has joined Bangladesh's Shakib al Hasan at the top of the pile. To boost the country's cricket ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced a big pay hike for the country's cricketers. The SLC officially announced on Friday that "fees for all categories of Sri Lanka's international players have been increased, with immediate effect". "Accordingly, 41 players will be offered new contracts under six categories, namely, A1, A2, B2, C1, C2, and 'A' Team," SLC announced. Though the announcement has come ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup which will be held in the Caribbean and the United States, the biggest pay hike was for Test cricket with 100% on a merit basis. There will be different payment structures for a Test match 'won', 'drawn' or 'lost', SLC stated.
Pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who is recuperating from a hamstring niggle, was on Thursday named in Sri Lanka's squad for next month's T20 World Cup, which will be led by Wanindu Hasaranga, who is also returning from an injury. Cricket team manager of the Legend Cricket League 2024, Yoni Patel has been indicted before the Colombo High Court over match-fixing charges, the Attorney General informed the court. Patel was charged over match-fixing allegations during the Legend Cricket League 2024 on complaints by former New Zealand legend Neil Broom, who represented the team Punjab Royals and Sri Lankan cricketer Upul Tharanga, who represents the Kandy Samp Army team. The two former cricket stars had alleged that they were pressurised into engaging in match-fixing deals by Patel.
