Cold Weather A Worry For Sri Lanka, Namibia At T20 World Cup

Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus expressed concern Saturday about the cold weather in Australia, but insisted the African nation could set the Twenty20 World Cup on fire by upsetting Sri Lanka in the tournament opener. Temperatures at Geelong, where the global showpiece starts on Sunday, have been hovering around 16 degrees Celsius (60 degrees Fahrenheit) and plunging to as low as four in the evening. That is nippy for a Namibian side more used to balmy weather at home this time of year, and Erasmus admitted it was a shock to the system.

"Like Lasith Malinga...": Mahela Jayawardene's Huge Praise For Star Allrounder

Sri Lankan batting legend Mahela Jayawardene is mighty impressed with the rise of Wanindu Hasaranga as he sees traits of pace bowling great Lasith Malinga in the 25-year-old spin allrounder. Hasaranga, who plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, hogged the limelight in the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE when he topped the charts with 16 wickets -- the most in a tournament. He then played an instrumental role both with the bat and ball in their Asia Cup triumph to rise to world number 4 in the allrounder's rankings.

"Going Into A World Cup...": Mahela Jayawardena Opens Up On Babar Azam's Recent Struggles

"So near, yet so far." This proverb was totally justified in the case of Team Pakistan, when they failed to defeat Sri Lanka in the summit clash of Asia Cup 2022. Giving a fairly good performance in the Super 4 stage, Pakistan lost the final match by 23 runs against Sri Lanka. In the tournament, Pakistan found heroes in the form of Mohammad Nawaz, Haris Rauf, and Shadab Khan, who gave great performances with the ball. But on the other hand, Pakistan's major disappointment was skipper Babar Azam himself, who could manage only 68 runs in six matches. Babar has been receiving a lot of flak from both fans and cricket experts for his dismal show.

Sri Lanka Part Ways With Tom Moody Ahead Of T20 World Cup 2022

Australian former international Tom Moody is set to leave his post as Sri Lanka's director of cricket, officials said on Monday, weeks before the T20 World Cup. The 56-year-old's three-year contract is being terminated by "mutual agreement", Mohan de Silva, secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), told AFP. A senior cricket source who did not wish to be named said that SLC "could not afford his fees in the long run", despite having savings of over $40 million. "We also feel we need a person who is more hands-on, who can spend more time in Sri Lanka," the source added.
