NYBORG, Denmark : Dutchman Fabio Jakobsen claimed the second stage of the Tour de France, a 202.2-km flat ride from Roskilde to Nyborg, in a stunning sprint finish after edging out Wout van Aert and Mads Pedersen on Saturday.
Fabio Jakobsen (QuickStep — Alpha Vinyl) emerged unscathed from a chaotic climax to claim the first road stage of the Tour de France 2022 in a sprint finish. In victory the Dutch debutant completed his comeback from the live-threatening crash at the Tour of Poland two years ago, delivered on a great promise, and justified his favoured sprinter status — not to mention his team selection in the first place.
Fabio Jakobsen, a Dutchman who less than two years ago was in a medically induced coma after a race crash, won the second stage of his debut Tour de France in a sprint finish.
Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma) avenged her defeat on Friday by taking a fine sprint victory on Stage 3 at the Giro Donne. The Dutchwoman was pipped on the line on Stage 2 by Elisa Balsamo (Trek-Segafredo) after launching her sprint early, but she backed herself from distance again a day later and was rewarded with her 31st stage win at the race.
Three early Cat. 4 climbs will give a polka-dot prize as an added incentive to the breakaway but the real action will come towards the end on the 18km long Great Belt crossing of the Kattegat Sea ahead of the finish. Remember how similar exposed coastal roads in Zeeland blew the race apart during the Dutch Grand Depart back in 2015? Ad/> Well, this could be even more feisty.
