NEW YORK : With poise beyond his 19 years and enviable stamina, Carlos Alcaraz faced down the crowd and Frances Tiafoe on Friday night to collect another thrilling win and reach the U.S. Open final.
NEW YORK — The wristband on Frances Tiafoe's racket hand reads «Believe. Why Not Me.»
Grace Brown (FDJ Suez Futuroscope) timed her sprint to perfection to win Stage 3 at La Madrid Challenge from a two-woman break. Inside the last 10km, Brown broke free from a reduced bunch with Elise Chabbey (Canyon-SRAM). Having made it to the final straight and assured that victory would come from one of them, the Australian loitered in the slipstream of the Swiss rider until the last possible moment.
:Denmark's Mads Pedersen dominated a bunch sprint to win stage 19 of the Vuelta a Espana in style on Friday - his third victory at this year's race.
Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) ensured that Stage 19 stuck to the script by winning from a reduced bunch sprint in the streets of Talavera de la Reina on a day where La Vuelta paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II. Fred Wright (Bahrain Victorious) took second place and fellow Briton Ben Turner (Ineos Grenadiers) took fourth place in the short but sharp 138.3km stage in central Spain, which was preceded by a minute’s silence to commemorate the Queen.
Stage 6 of the Tour of Britain in Gloucestershire on Friday has been postponed, following Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s passing on Thursday. It’s one of a number of suspensions across all sports as the country mourns the death of the longest-reigning Monarch in British history.
Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) believes La Vuelta will be “easier to control” after he proved the strongest again on Stage 18 but is still anticipating attacks. The Belgian won in the red jersey after a thrilling finish saw him towed to the finale by rival Enric Mas (Movistar) before the pair cruelly leapfrogged Robert Gesink (Jumbo-Visma), the lone survivor from a 42-man breakaway. Ad Evenepoel steamed clear to the summit to gap Mas and hoover up bonus seconds, leaving his quest for a maiden Grand Tour title now looking a formality.
