Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) sprinted to a third successive victory as he stretched his overall lead at Tirreno-Adriatico 2023 after a Stage 6 triumph in Osimo. The 33-year-old was hugely impressive as he powered to the win in a three-way sprint against Britain's Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos Grenadiers) and Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) in a thrilling finish to the day's racing.
Sprint sensation Jeriel Quainoo wants to cement a place among the very best of Britain. The 19-year-old has long stood out as a junior, and in 2022 won double gold at the Junior British Championships and also claimed 200m bronze in the senior event.
Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) edged out General Classification rivals David Gaudu (Groupama — FDJ) and Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) to take victory on Stage 7 of Paris-Nice. The Slovenian timed his attacks to perfection as 2022 Tour de France winner Vingegaard struggled to match his efforts atop Col de la Couillole.
Simon Hegstad Krueger secured World Cup gold in the men's 50km mass start race in Oslo, with all of the first ten finishers from Norway. Krueger claimed top spot in his hometown of Oslo, 5.7 seconds ahead of Hans Christer Holund, while Martin Loewstroem Nyenget took third, 12.6 seconds off the pace. Ad Krueger's victory comes a week after being left out of the Norway team for the World Cup five-mile race.
Wild winds could not prevent Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) from doubling up at Tirreno-Adriatico as the Slovenian grabbed the overall lead with another brilliant win on a shortened Stage 5. Despite organisers reducing the final climb to Sarnano-Sassotetto due to weather concerns, it still packed a punch as Roglic emerged from a squabbling front group to charge home ahead of Giulio Ciccone (Trek–Segafredo) and Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos Grenadiers).
Friday’s Stage 6 at Paris-Nice has been cancelled after “exceptionally violent winds” approaching 100kph made it impossible for the race to go ahead. The stage to La Colle-sur-Loup in southern France — which had already been shortened to 80km because of the high winds — was cancelled altogether when local authorities met with organisers ASO, where the decision was made just before 1pm local time.
Paris-Nice race organisers have cancelled today's six stage of the event after violent winds brought down trees and threatened the safety of the riders.
