The Spaniard reclaimed the lead from the world champion Bagnaia with half a dozen laps remaining and somehow clung on as the inspired Italian – starting on pole and desperately chasing his first victory at the historic circuit – swarmed all over Martin in the closing minutes.

Jorge Martin won the Sprint race in the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring on Saturday afternoon. Francesco Bagnaia started on pole, and he and Martin battled early for the lead, but the pair were distracted, allowing Jack Miller to steal in for the lead. Ad Martin then effortlessly slipped by both Bagnaia and Miller on a straight, and with nine laps to go, opened up a second’s lead.
