South African Batter Zubayr Hamza Suspended By ICC For Doping Violation

The ICC on Tuesday suspended South African batter Zubayr Hamza from all cricket-related activities for a period of nine months after he admitted to an anti-doping rule violation under the apex body's anti-doping code. Hamza provided an out-of-competition sample on January 17, 2022 in Paarl, South Africa, in which the prohibited substance Furosemide - which is a specified substance in Section S5 of the 2022 WADA Prohibited List - was found. He admitted the violation and, having established no significant fault or negligence on his part, a nine-month period of ineligibility has been imposed, backdated to 22 March 2022, the date that Hamza accepted a provisional suspension.

BAN vs SL, 1st Test, Day 1: Ton-Up Angelo Mathews Steers Sri Lanka To 258-4 vs Bangladesh

Former captain Angelo Mathews hit an unbeaten 114 to help Sri Lanka finish strongly on the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh on Sunday. The tourists reached 258 for four at stumps after electing to bat first on what looked like a placid pitch in Chittagong at the start of the two-match series. Mathews put on a key third-wicket 92-run stand with Kusal Mendis, who made 54, to rebuild the Sri Lankan innings after off-spinner Nayeem Hasan removed the openers.

India vs South Africa: Hardik Pandya Or Shikhar Dhawan May Lead In T2OI Series With Top Stars Including Rohit Sharma Likely To Be Rested

Many seniors including captain Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are all set to be rested for the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa, with an eye on the marquee tour of England in July. Besides, the national selection committee is also set to excuse Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant from the engagements against the Proteas. It is understood that veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan and all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who has impressed one and all with his captaincy for Gujarat Titans in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, are in reckoning for the leadership role for both South Africa and the short two-match T20I series against Ireland.
