ZHANGJIAKOU, China :American Chloe Kim cemented her position as one of the greats of women's snowboarding with a commanding performance on Thursday to win halfpipe gold at the Winter Games and defend her 2018 Olympic title.

ZHANGJIAKOU, China (AP) — No way was snowboarder Chloe Kim taking an easy ride down the halfpipe for her victory lap on her third and final run.

The American produced her best run at the first attempt with an impressive score of 94.00 to seal her second career gold medal. Chloe Kim is the first woman to win two Olympic snowboard gold medals in the halfpipe. The lone American to make Thursday's final, Kim, 21, won the event with her first-run score of 94, which was nearly four points higher than the rest of the field. Spain's Queralt Castellet, a five-time Olympian, captured her first medal, a silver, and Sena Tomita of Japan finished with the bronze.
