Michael Leask helped Scotland to a stunning 31-run victory over Zimbabwe on Tuesday to set up a winner-takes-all clash with the Netherlands for a place at the World Cup. Sri Lanka became the first of the top two teams in the Super Six table to have qualified for the October-November World Cup in India when they beat Zimbabwe on Sunday. The hosts could have clinched the second spot with victory over Scotland in Bulawayo, but it was not to be after Scottish quick Chris Sole (3-33) ripped through their top order, eventually bowled out for 203 chasing down 234.
Mats Wilander thinks Andy Murray has the “perfect draw” to make a deep run at Wimbledon after starting with victory over Ryan Peniston. Murray, 36, won 12 of the last 13 games to secure a convincing win over his fellow Brit. Ad The two-time champion said afterwards that it’s “been a long time since I've felt physically this good coming into Wimbledon”.
Jonny Bairstow's controversial run-out has sparked a debate on social media, questioning the "spirit of the game." The incident took place during the 52nd over of Day 5 of the second Ashes Test between England and Australia at Lord's. The English player wandered out of his ground after ducking a bouncer by Cameron Green and Aussie wicketkeeper Alex Carey made a perfect use of his awareness and threw the ball onto the stumps. Many fans and former cricketers blasted the Pat Cummins-led and especially Alex Carey for playing an unfair game.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Monday aimed a verbal bouncer at Australia's cricketers after the Lord's Ashes match -- but ruled out turning it into a Bodyline-style diplomatic incident. Jonny Bairstow's controversial dismissal was not in keeping with the spirit of the game, Sunak's spokesman told reporters. "The prime minister agrees with (England captain) Ben Stokes who said he simply wouldn't want to win a game in the manner that Australia did," the spokesman said. But Sunak, a keen cricket fan who watched with Prince William from the Lord's pavilion on Saturday, also deplored the Long Room abuse directed at the Australians by Marylebone Cricket Club members.
The 'spirit of cricket' debate has triggered among fans and experts on social media ever since England wicket-keeper batter Jonny Bairstow was dismissed in a controversial manner. An unaware Bairstow wandered outside his crease, only for Australia wicket-keeper Alex Carey to dislodge the bails and get him out run-out. As fans discuss whether Australia were right to dismiss Bairstow in the fashion, fans recall how MS Dhoni withdrew a similar run-out appeal during an India vs England Test in 2011, allowing the already-dismissed Ian Bell to return to the crease.
Senior Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who has often been subjected to unfair criticism for running out batters at non-striker's end for backing too far, has backed Alex Carey's decision to run out a wandering Jonny Bairstow on the final day of the second Ashes Test. Australia took a 2-0 lead after winning the second Test at the Lord's by 43 runs. However, there was some controversy when Bairstow (10), along with skipper Ben Stokes (155), was about to forge a partnership, ducked a slow bouncer from Cameron Green and ventured out of the crease thinking that the ball was already 'dead'.
