Marcus Smith: There’s been plenty said and written about the England fly-half in recent weeks and despite plenty of pressure on his shoulders, Smith has done well after two rounds of action in the Six Nations. The playmaker, who turns 23 today, impressed in England’s tournament opener against Scotland before inexplicably being replaced in the latter stages of that game. And without him on the field the Red Rose lost their way before suffering a 20-17 defeat. There was no chance of England head coach Eddie Jones repeating that mistake in their next match against Italy and Smith delivered an excellent all-round display during an 80-minute spell on the field. Smith shone on attack, gaining 148 metres from 12 runs which included seven offloads, a try assist and a 13-point contribution courtesy of a try and four conversions.

Italy flanker Sebastian Negri has thanked Ellis Genge for coming to his aid in Sunday's Guinness Six Nations defeat by England at the Stadio Olimpico. Negri had only been on the pitch for 16 minutes of the second half when he was knocked unconscious during a collision and, after lengthy medical attention, he was driven from the pitch on a motorised cart. Understanding the gravity of the situation, it was Genge who first alerted the officials to Negri's condition. "Thank you so much @EllisGenge appreciate all you did. You are a top man. All good this side and feeling a lot better wishing you and all the @EnglandRugby lads all the best for the rest of the @SixNationsRugby. Catch up with you soon, Safe travels back home today," Negri tweeted.

RTÉ rugby analyst Bernard Jackman says the losing bonus point Ireland claimed in Paris could yet prove crucial in the final analysis and reckons this may have been factored into the team's thinking when they took the contentious decision to take three points rather kick for the corner when trailing by six late in the game.
