Brazil have called up five players for the first time including Palmeiras' teenage prodigy Endrick for this month's World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and leaders Argentina in the squad announced by interim coach Fernando Diniz on Monday.
Most of the top guns including Sunil Chhetri, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Sandesh Jhingan figured in the 28-member probable announced by Indian football team head coach Igor Stimac on Friday for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. This is for the first two matches of Round 2 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 Preliminary Joint Qualification. The Blue Tigers are set to face Kuwait in their opening Group A fixture at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait City on November 16 before returning home to take on Qatar at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on November 21.
MELBOURNE : The Australian women's soccer team emerged from Olympic qualifiers against Iran, Philippines and Taiwan with three wins, three clean sheets and a highlight reel of 13 goals.
The Indian women's team bowed out of the AFC Olympic Qualifiers Round 2 with a 0-3 loss to Uzbekistan in Tashkent on Wednesday. In the four-team group, India had earlier lost to Japan and Vietnam. Backed by a loud, if not capacity crowd, Uzbekistan immediately applied pressure on India, and started dominating possession. The equation was clear: a win would put Uzbekistan in prime contention for the best second-place team slot. India, meanwhile, were playing for pride. Within two minutes though Uzbekistan took the lead from a set piece.
