The Mexican, who headed into the weekend with his sights set on following up his Monaco victory by becoming the first repeat winner at the Baku city track, lapped the six-km, barrier-lined layout in one minute 43.170 seconds. That was good enough to eclipse Leclerc, who is looking to bounce back from the double disappointment of losing out on victory in Spain and Monaco, by 0.070 seconds.
Lewis Hamilton finished twelfth and more than a second and a half behind pacesetter Sergio Perez in final practice for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Santiago Urrutia was a late improver in the second free practice session to top the times at WTCR Race of Hungary as the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup teams and drivers made their final preparations for qualifying at the Hungaroring. The Cyan Performance Lynk & Co driver set a benchmark of 1m52.326s in the final minutes of the 45-minute session as the top 12 were separated by less than a second.
Thed Björk headed Nathanaël Berthon in the first free practice session of WTCR Race of Hungary as the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup field got to grips with a bright and sunny Hungaroring. Björk set his benchmark of 1m51.965s in his Goodyear-equipped Cyan Performance Lynk & Co about 20 minutes into the 45 minute session around the 4.381-kilometre circuit.
