Alessandro Covi (UAE Team Emirates) took the stage victory to put some smiles on Italian faces in the final mountain stage of this year's race but the day belonged to Hindley.

CASTELMONTE, Italy : Richard Carapaz held on to the pink jersey as Dutchman Koen Bouwman won stage 19 of the Giro d'Italia, a mountainous 178-kilometre ride from Marano Lagunare to Santuario di Castelmonte, in bizarre fashion on Friday.

Britain's Simon Yates (BikeExchange-Jayco) claimed a thrilling win on Stage 14 at the Giro d’Italia as Richard Carapaz and Ineos Grenadiers seized the pink jersey from the fading Juan Pedro Lopez (Trek-Segafredo). Yates arrived in Italy in terrific form but his GC hopes vanished on Stage 4 after picking up a knee injury in a crash, with the Brit almost 20 minutes adrift ahead of Saturday’s undulating and brutal run from Santena to Torino.
Frenchman Arnaud Demare won his third stage at this year's Giro d'Italia with a well-timed sprint at the end of stage 13, a 150km ride from San Remo to Cuneo, on Friday.
