Ex-Pakistan Skipper Opts Out Of Asian Games Due To 'No-Children Rule'

Former Pakistan women's cricket team skipper Bismah Maroof decided to opt out of Hangzhou Asian Games because of the event's rules that do not allow the competing athletes to carry their children. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced Maroof's decision while naming the 15-player squad for the competition which was picked by a committee comprising of Saleem Jaffar, head coach Mark Coles and captain Nida Dar. “The team is unfortunate to miss out on the services of Bismah Maroof for this event as she would not have been able to accompany her infant daughter to the Games village due to the regulations in place,” Head of Women Cricket, Tania Mallick said.

Pakistan Announce First-Ever Women's Home Series Against South Africa

Pakistan women's team will host South Africa Women at home for the first time ever in a limited-overs series in September, as per ICC. South Africa will play three T20Is followed by three ODIs in Pakistan, with the matches set to take place between 1 to 14 September. The South African team will arrive in Pakistan on 27 August, with all the matches set to be played at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Pakistan have decided to replace Bismah Maroof who stepped down from the captaincy role after the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2023. Bismah has been replaced by veteran all-rounder Nida Dar. Along with this Mark Coles has also been confirmed as the new head coach, a role he had occupied previously between 2017 and 2019. In another change, former Test cricketer Saleem Jaffar was named as the chair of the Women's Selection Committee.

Bismah Maroof has stepped down as Pakistan women's cricket team captain, ending a nearly six-year stint of leading the side. Maroof's last assignment as captain was the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa where the team failed to make it to the semi-final, losing three of the four group games, including a thriller against arch-rivals India. The 31-year-old had played a pivotal role in guiding Pakistan to a competitive 149 in the T20 World Cup, remaining unbeaten at 68 runs. But India overhauled the target with six balls to spare to win by seven wickets.

A bizarre scene unfolded in the Women's T20 World Cup 2023 clash between Pakistan and England when five penalty runs were awarded to the English team because of an error by Pakistani wicket-keeper Sidra Nawaz. Nawaz took off her gloves to collect the ball during the 15th over of England's batting but had no clue about what was to happen next. After Nawaz collected the ball from a fielder, she dropped it on the discarded glove that was lying right in front of her on the ground, prompting the umpires to slap a 5-run penalty to Pakistan.

India's Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh have moved to the 11th and 36th spots respectively among batters in the latest ICC Women's T20I Player Rankings released on Tuesday. The duo progressed after guiding India to victory against Pakistan in the Women's T20 World Cup opener. While Rodrigues has moved from 13th to 11th after her unbeaten 52, Ghosh is up from 42nd to 36th following her 31 not out. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, who missed the opener due to a finger injury, remains the top-ranked India in third place.
