Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja was elated after Pakistan managed to salvage a draw from the jaws of defeat in the recently-concluded second Test against Australia at the National Stadium in Karachi. Chasing a daunting total of 506 runs, Pakistan lost the wickets of openers Imam-ul-Haq and Azhar Ali early. However, skipper Babar Azam slammed a brilliant 196, while fighting knocks from Mohammad Rizwan (104) and Abdullah Shafique (96) eventually forced the series to a decider. Notably, the first Test in Rawalpindi had also ended in a draw.
The final Test match between Pakistan and Australia will be played from March 21 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The series -- Australia's first in Pakistan for 24 years -- opened with a high scoring stalemate on a featherbed pitch in Rawalpindi before the hosts salvaged a fighting draw in Karachi on the back of an epic 196 from Azam. Lahore's Gaddafi stadium is Azam's home ground and will be staging a Test for the first time since a fatal terror attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in 2009 caused international cricket to be suspended in Pakistan.
Former Pakistan skipper Javed Miandad on Saturday was formally inducted into the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) Hall of Fame. PCB Chief Executive Faisal Hasnain presented him with a commemorative cap and plaque. Miandad, who played for Pakistan between 1975-1996, amassed 16,213 international runs with 31 centuries in 357 matches. The 64-year-old is one of the only two men's cricketers who have played in six different ODI World Cups. Miandad said he felt honoured after being inducted into PCB's Hall of Fame.
