Pakistan Junior League Scrapped By Najam Sethi-Led New PCB Administration

Najam Sethi chaired the second meeting of the Pakistan Cricket Board's Management Committee at the National High-Performance Centre on Saturday, where it was decided to discontinue the Pakistan Junior League and to revive the junior series on home-and-away basis in order to provide a pathway for young high-performing cricketers. The PCB Management Committee held an extensive discussion on the restoration of the Regional and District Cricket Associations and Departments/Service Organisations in line with the PCB Constitution 2014, as per a statement from the board.

Ramiz Raja Removed As Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman: Report

Former cricketer Ramiz Raja has been removed as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by the country's government, which has appointed a 14-member committee, headed by Najam Sethi, to run the affairs of the game for the next four months. The Pakistan government, through a notification late on Wednesday, removed Raja following the team's 3-0 whitewash by England in the Test series. The notification, issued by Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, has to be approved by the federal cabinet, which is just a formality.

Pakistan Spinner Suspended For Breaching PCB's Anti-Corruption Code

Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday, suspended left-arm spinner Asif Afridi, under the anti-corruption code, which also includes him failing to report a corrupt approach. Under the Article 4.71 of PCB's anti-corruption code, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa spinner will not be allowed to take part in any cricket activity until the conclusion of the case that is currently under the PCB's anti-corruption unit. In an official statement, PCB stated, "The Pakistan Cricket Board, on 12 September 2022, provisionally suspended Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's left-arm spinner Asif Afridi with immediate effect under Article 4.7.1 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code, which means that he cannot take part in any cricket-related activity, pending conclusion of the investigation being carried out by PCB's Anti-Corruption Unit."

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from international cricket a couple of years back, citing shabby treatment from the management. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has told the national assembly standing committee on sports that he uses a bulletproof vehicle because of a security threat. Responding to questions on the benefits and perks he gets as chairman of the board, Ramiz said he is "not a big financial burden" on the PCB as the former national team captain, among other things, also takes care of his medical expenses. "Ramiz did tell the committee members at one stage that he only used the bullet proof vehicle of the board because of a security threat otherwise he avoided taking any perks from the PCB," a source aware of the meeting proceedings said.

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ramiz Raja has obliquely said that he wants to continue in the top post, following prolonged speculations that he was likely to be sacked by the ruling government. There have been speculations for months that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will soon bring in his own nominee to replace Ramiz as PCB Chairman. Shahbaz recently also held meetings with three former Chairman of the board, Khalid Mahmood, Zaka Ashraf and Najam Sethi on cricket matters leading to more speculations that Ramiz would be told to go home.
