COVID-19 outbreak hit the Indian cricket team on Wednesday as three main players -- senior opener Shikhar Dhawan, reserve opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer -- tested positive for the virus during their mandatory isolation period before the start of West Indies series. Four other persons, including net bowler Navdeep Saini, have also tested positive for COVID-19. Saini is also on standby list.
Three of them are players picked to play the series while four are from the support staff and one is a standby player. The Indian team assembled in Ahmedabad on Monday to play the three-match ODI series against West Indies which is due to start on February 6. According to sources, the infected players are Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer. Other than the players, a driver, a security personnel, a physical trainer and a masseuse have been infected.
