LONDON : A Saudi Arabia-backed sports fund is considering investing in a new body that World Athletics may potentially set up to manage the sport's commercial rights, two people with knowledge of the matter said.
India table tennis legend A Sharath Kamal on Wednesday announced that the WTT Contender Chennai later this month will be his last tournament as a professional athlete, capping off an illustrious career spanning well over two decades. The WTT (World Table Tennis) event will be played here from March 25 to 30. "I played my first international tournament in Chennai, I will be playing my last international also in Chennai. This will be my last tournament as a professional athlete," said the 42-year-old here. Sharath has won as many six gold medals in the Commonwealth Games and he would rate them at par with the two Asian Games bronze medals he secured later in his career.
India has roped in Dutch legend Taeke Taekema to work with the national women's hockey team dragflickers on a short-term basis till the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Taekema had conducted a seven-day camp from February 10 to 16 ahead of India's FIH Pro League campaign in Bhubaneswar last month, where the hosts competed against England, Germany, Netherlands, and Spain. The seven-day camp was attended by the likes of Deepika, Manisha Chauhan, Sonam, and Annu, along with a few junior players.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief P T Usha on Tuesday defended her decision to appoint an ad-hoc committee for boxing, saying the national federation failed to fulfil its "fundamental responsibilities" in the last one year and her action was necessary to "restore order and ensure proper governance". Her statement came in response to IOA vice president Gagan Narang's letter on February 28 in which the former Olympic bronze-winner accused her of issuing "arbitrary" orders and undermining athletes' welfare.
