Defending Indian Super League champions Mohun Bagan and Shield winners Mumbai City FC will renew their rivalry when they clash in the Durand Cup quarterfinals. The quarterfinals lineup of the Durand Cup was announced on Tuesday. East Bengal will take on Gokulam Kerala as the two city heavyweights will play both their respective last-eight matches on home turf.
Mumbai City FC qualified for the quarterfinals of the ongoing Durand Cup with a dominating 4-0 victory over Indian Navy FT on Saturday. Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Greg Stewart, Gurkirat Singh and Nathan Asher Rodrigues scored for Mumbai, who finished the group stage with nine points from three matches. At Kokrajhar, Bodoland FC ended their maiden Durand Cup campaign with a historic 2-1 win over Odisha FC, their first win in the iconic tournament.
Mumbai City FC cruised to a second consecutive victory with a 5-0 win over Jamshedpur FC in a Group B fixture of the Durand Cup on Tuesday. Jorge Pereyra Diaz scored twice and Alberto Noguera, Yoell Van Nieff and Vikram Partap Singh netted one each for the Mumbai City FC, who are now placed at the top of Group B. Jamshedpur FC made a fast start to the game as they forced a save out of Phurba Lachenpa inside 20 seconds of the save from an attempt by Bivan Laskar. But Mumbai City FC found their mojo soon and dominated till the end. Greg Stewart hit the crossbar from a freekick and Mehtab Singh forced a save out of JFC keeper Mohit Singh Dhami.
Mumbai City FC (MCFC) defeated local favourites Mohammedan Sporting 3-1 in the Durand Cup at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Saturday. Playing their first match of the 132nd Durand Cup, the Islanders were three up in the first 35 minutes of the game, but the Black and White brigade made a game of it after their confidence was boosted by a David Lalhlansanga strike. Rostyn Griffiths, Jorge Peryra Diaz and Lalianzuala Chhangte scored for the winners. This was the first match of Group B which also has Jamshedpur FC and the Indian Navy as part of it.

Mumbai City FC qualified for the AFC Champions League 2023-24 group stage with a 3-1 win over Jamshedpur FC in the Club Playoffs, in Manjeri, Kerala on Wednesday. In a clash between two previous ISL Shield Winners, Des Buckingham's men were dominant and scored through Ahmed Jahouh (52nd), Alberto Noguera (70th) and Vikram Partap Singh (90+4th). Jamshedpur FC made a game of it late on with a goal from Eli Sabia (80th) but that was not enough. The Islanders will now become the first Indian club to appear in the AFC Champions League group stages on more than one occasion.
Star striker Sunil Chhetri struck a late goal as a substitute to help Bengaluru FC eke out a 1-0 win over Mumbai City FC in the first leg of the Indian Super League (ISL) semi-final in Mumbai on Tuesday. Chhetri's 78th minute goal gave the Blues a vital advantage ahead of the second leg in Bengaluru on Sunday. As they have all season, the Islanders were once again the team that dominated possession and created more scoring chances than their opponents. In the second minute, Greg Stewart set the pace down the right with a low cross back into the box for Bipin Singh, whose shot was blocked by Prabir Das. The defender was called into action again just ten minutes later to deny Lalengmawia Ralte and Jorge Diaz after a one-two.
