Pakistan men's team assistant coach Azhar Mahmood has said that those engaging in false allegations and narratives targeting his family "will be dealt with through legal action." Pakistan's T20 World Cup woeful campaign ended on a heartbreaking note. The Babar Azam-led side crashed out of the tournament in the group stage. Mahmood stated that he is upset to hear such claims that are false and baseless. "I have heard some false allegations and narratives circulating on social media and other media platforms. I categorically state that these allegations are entirely baseless and false, and it is extremely upsetting to hear them," Mahmood wrote on X.
After allegations of spot-fixing and match-fixing against the Pakistan cricket team surfaced online, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has asked those making such claims to come up with "proof". The board also said that a legal action will be taken against the ones if any allegation is made without any proof. The statement from PCB was not official as Cricket Pakistan quoted a source from the governing body. While the source confirmed that the PCB is aware of the "negative comments", it termed the accusations as "baseless". It is worth noting that such allegations against the Babar Azam and Co. are surfacing after their early exit from T20 World Cup 2024.
Cricket team manager of the Legend Cricket League 2024, Yoni Patel has been indicted before the Colombo High Court over match-fixing charges, the Attorney General informed the court. Patel was charged over match-fixing allegations during the Legend Cricket League 2024 on complaints by former New Zealand legend Neil Broom, who represented the team Punjab Royals and Sri Lankan cricketer Upul Tharanga, who represents the Kandy Samp Army team. The two former cricket stars had alleged that they were pressurised into engaging in match-fixing deals by Patel.
Wicketkeeper-batter Shreevats Goswami, who was a member of the 2008 Under-19 World Cup-winning team, on Thursday alleged that a match in the Cricket Association of Bengal's (CAB) first division league seemed fixed from the manner in which some dismissals took place during the game. Goswami shared videos of a game between Mohammedan Sporting and Town Club on his Facebook page. He alleged that Mohammedan Sporting batters seemed to be intentionally getting out to concede seven points to Town Club which is associated with former Team India manager Debabrata Das, who is the current CAB secretary. Das was the Indian tam's administrative manager during the tour of England in 2022.
