Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez scored twice as Manchester City reopened a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League by brushing aside Manchester United 4-1 at the Etihad on Sunday.
Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez each scored twice as Manchester City sealed a 4-1 victory over cross-town rivals Manchester United in their derby meeting in the Premier League on Sunday. Playing at the Etihad Stadium in front of their home fans, City made a flying start as they took the lead in the fifth minute, courtesy of a De Bruyne strike. Running into the middle inside United's box, De Bruyne neatly finished off a pass from the left flank to put his side ahead. United didn't take too long to respond. After a couple of half-chances that United failed to take advantage of, Jadon Sancho cut in from the left during a counter-attack and curled in the ball spectacularly into the back of the net to level the scores.
Manchester United’s Harry Maguire had an afternoon to forget against Manchester City on Sunday.
Bukayo Saka scored one goal and set up another as Arsenal battled past Watford 3-2 on Sunday to remain in Champions League contention.
Wolverhampton Wanderers could enter contract talks with Max Kilman in the summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Bukayo Saka starred as Arsenal leapfrogged Manchester United into the Premier League top four on Sunday with a 3-2 win at struggling Watford. Martin Odegaard struck early for the visitors before Cucho Hernandez equalised with a stunning overhead kick minutes later. England international Saka put Arsenal back in front after half an hour and Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli increased the visitors' lead early in the second half. A late goal from Moussa Sissoko against the run of play gave Watford hope but the Gunners held out for a crucial win.
Cristiano Ronaldo was absent from the Manchester United squad to face Manchester City on Sunday as Ralf Rangnick did not name a recognised striker in his starting line-up at the Etihad. Edinson Cavani also missed out due to injury, while Marcus Rashford was left on the bench as Rangnick opted for Anthony Elanga and Jadon Sancho in a makeshift attack. Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw are also missing for United due to testing positive for coronavirus. Ronaldo could have ended up at City had the final days of the summer transfer window gone differently as United swooped in to ensure the five-time Ballon d'Or winner returned to Old Trafford.
Jurgen Klopp hopes a nervy 1-0 win over West Ham will be more fondly remembered at the end of the season after Sadio Mane's goal closed the gap on Manchester City at the top of the table to three points. Defeat leaves West Ham still two points outside the top four having played more games than all their rivals for a place in next season's Champions League. But David Moyes' men will rue a host of missed chances to salvage a point, which would have given City breathing space at the top of the table.
