Indian cricket greats Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar unexpected went head-to-head after the former openly criticised commentators and experts for questioning his strike-rate and struggles against spinners. Gavaskar, in a reply on Live TV, went on a fiery rant as he slammed Kohli to 'wanting appreciation for a strike-rate of 118' while also hitting out at the broadcaster Star Sports for showing the Royal Challengers Bengaluru batters' rant repeatedly on TV. Reacting to the controversy, Pakistan cricket great Wasim Akram sided with Gavaskar, saying Virat shouldn't have said what he did.
Already selected for India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad, Virat Kohli continues to remain a big subject of chatter among fans and pundits over his strike-rate in T20 cricket. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter has been crucial to his team's victories this campaign on multiple occasions, but analysts have also blamed his poor strike-rate behind certain defeats. Sunil Gavaskar was one of those critics who questioned Kohli's intent but Pakistan legend Wasim Akram doesn't feel there's anything wrong that the RCB star has done.
Andrej Kramaric scored in the final minute of regular time to snatch Hoffenheim a 1-1 draw at home to 10-man RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga on Friday. Leipzig spent most of the match in front after Benjamin Sesko's 38th-minute header from a cross from Germany winger David Raum gave him a goal for the fifth match in a row. Paris Saint-Germain loanee Xavi Simons picked up a yellow card with 10 minutes gone in the second-half for playing on after he handballed. He picked up a second yellow just 17 minutes later for a challenge on Anton Stach and saw red.
Proteas white-ball coach Rob Walter on Tuesday named his 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled from 1-29 June in the West Indies and USA.
Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram took a trip down the memory lane and recalled the time when bowled in nets to Sanju Sasmon during a Kolkata Knigth Riders (KKR) training camp. As some of you might recall, Akram was the bowling coach of KKR from 2010 to 2016, and during the same phase, the franchise won two IPL titles. During a recent interaction, Akram revealed that he still supports KKR in the IPL, having been part of the franchise for a solid seven editions.
Former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram revealed the bizarre schedule of West Indies stars Sunil Narine and Andre Russell when the two players are in India for the country's marquee T20 event IPL. The Pakistan legend, who has worked with Narine and Russell during his stint as bowling coach of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL, revealed that the two players stay up the entire night and sleep during the day when in India for the tournament. It is worth noting that India is 9 hours and 30 minutes ahead of the West Indies.
Hardik Pandya is clearly under pressure. His team Mumbai Indians are not their usual self while his own captaincy, since replacing Rohit Sharma in Mumbai Indians, is under the scanner. The effect on Pandya is so apparent that former India star Robin Uthappa recently said that Pandya may be battling mental health. "The mocking, trolling, the memes about his fitness. You don't think it hurts him? It hurts him. It hurts any human being. How many people actually know the reality of it? Hardik is dealing with mental health issues, for sure. We, as people, I understand, as Indians, we are emotional. But it is not right to impose this kind of treatment on any human being. It is unbecoming as a society for us to do that to someone and be okay with it. We should not be laughing along with it. We should not be forwarding these memes," he said on the Ranveer Show.
