"It Makes Me Teary-Eyed": KKR Star Venkatesh Iyer Gets Visibly Emotional After Not Being Retained

The difficulty of having a mega auction right after winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) title is that a team is forced to bid goodbye to several players of the champion side. Such has been the case for IPL 2024 champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) this time around. Despite managing to retain six of their stalwarts, KKR had to let go the likes of Mitchell Starc, Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer. The latter, who has been with the franchise since 2021, got emotional after not being retained.

Shreyas Iyer's Indian Premier League (IPL) future is up in the air, having chosen to enter the auction instead of being retained by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as revealed by their CEO Venky Mysore. Iyer will be a heavily sought-after player, as not only a highly-regarded middle-order batter, but also the pedigree of captaining a side to IPL glory. KKR CEO Reveals Shreyas Iyer Chat That Forced Franchise To Release Him

Following weeks of reports and rumours, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) CEO Venky Mysore revealed the thought process behind not retaining IPL 2024-winning captain Shreyas Iyer ahead of the mega auction. Shreyas had led KKR to one of the most dominant IPL title wins in 2024, but parted ways, with the franchise retaining six other players. Mysore hinted that it was Shreyas's decision, and not KKR's, that led to his non-retention. He also hinted that Shreyas wanted to test his market value in the auction.

Kolkata Knight Riders To Not Play All IPL 2025 Home Games At Eden Gardens. Reason Is...

The under-construction international cricket stadium at Narsingarh in Tripura could become Kolkata Knight Riders' second home ground for the 2025 IPL season since the iconic Eden Garden in Kolkata is set for a massive makeover next year, a Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) official said on Friday. The construction at the international stadium at Narsingarh began way back in 2017 with an estimated cost of Rs. 185 crore but the stadium is not yet ready. "IPL chairman Arun Kumar Dhumal recently visited the proposed international stadium at Narsingarh on the outskirts of the state capital. He said if the stadium's is ready before February next year, it could be made second home ground of KKR or some else other state will get the benefit," TCA secretary Subarta Dey told PTI.
