OCA Grants IOA Additional One Week For Sending Wrestlers' Names For Asian Games

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on Saturday extended the deadline till July 22 for sending Indian wrestlers' entries to the Asian Games organisers even as the IOA had sought time till August 5. The OCA has, otherwise, set July 15 as deadline for all participating nations to send athletes' entries by names for the Games, set to begin in the Chinese city of Hangzhou on September 23. The one-week extension was granted by the OCA under "exceptional circumstances" after the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) top brass including President PT Usha, Senior Vice President Ajay Patel and Joint Secretary Kalyan Chaubey attended the General Assembly of the OCA in Bangkok.

National Coaches Tell IOA Ad-hoc Panel Trial Exemption Decision For Protesting Wrestlers Has Irked Wrestling Community: Report

The top coaches of the country on Thursday informed the IOA ad-hoc panel, running the WFI, that the decision to exempt six protesting grapplers from Asian Games and World Championships trials has not gone down well with the wrestling fraternity. The ad-hoc panel head Bhupender Singh Bajwa, in an informal meeting held in Meerut, heard views from national freestyle coach Jagmander Singh, national Greco-Roman coach Hargobind Singh and national women's coach Virender Singh Dahiya.

Selection Trials Priority Over Wrestling Federation of India Elections: IOA President PT Usha

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president P T Usha on Tuesday justified the delay in holding the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections, saying selection trials for the junior grapplers was a priority for the national sports apex body. The IOA had on April 27 announced that a three-member ad-hoc committee will run the day-to-day affairs of the federation and also hold WFI elections within 45 days of its formation. However it has not yet appointed the third member -- a retired high court judge -- to initiate the election process.

Ad-hoc Committee In Full Control; WFI Should Hand Over All Documents To Panel: IOA

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has asked the secretary general of WFI to hand over the official documents including financial instruments to its ad-hoc panel, making it clear the outgoing office bearers shall have no role in the running of the federation. The WFI said it has no issues in obeying the IOA order since they were already co-operating with the authorities. The IOA had formed an ad-hoc committee to manage the day-to-day affairs of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and also conduct due polls of the NSF.

IOA Debars Outgoing Wrestling Federation Of India Officials From Undertaking Administrative Work

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Saturday debarred all outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) officials from undertaking any administrative WFI function with immediate effect. IOA issued a letter regarding the same. "Taking note of the Ministry's letter dated 24.04.2023 informing Indian Olympic Association (IOA) of the administrative void in Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and requesting the IOA to form a transitory committee or Ad hoc Committee to conduct elections of Executive Council of WFI and manage affairs of WFI, IOA Executive Council at its Emergency meeting held on 27th April, 2023 has unanimously resolved that an Ad Hoc Committee should be constituted to take charge of the affairs of the WFI," said the letter.

Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat Hit Mat For First Time In 15 Days; IOA's Ad-hoc Panel Plans Trials For Asian Championships From May 17

Star wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat hit the mat on Monday for the first time in 15 days to be ready for the Asian Games trials even as IOA's ad-hoc panel set the ball rolling for resumption of activities by finalising dates for the Asian Championships (U17, 23) trials. Sparring was out of question for these top wrestlers after they resumed their sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar, demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who they have accused of sexual exploitation of women wrestlers.

IOA To Form Ad-Hoc Committee To Conduct WFI Executive Committee Elections Within 45 Days: Sports Ministry

The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced on Monday that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) will be forming an ad-hoc committee to conduct the elections for the Executive Committee of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) within 45 days of its formation, to manage day-to-day affairs of the body, including the selection of athletes and making entries for the participation of players in international events. This committee will be functioning for an interim period till a new Executive Committee takes charge.

IOC Asks IOA To Appoint CEO Without Further Delay

The International Olympic Committee has asked the Indian Olympic Association to appoint a chief executive officer without any further delay, and also confirmed that the 140th IOC session will be held in Mumbai in October this year. The IOC formally acknowledged the results of IOA elections during its executive board meeting here on Wednesday night.
