How is technology changing the treatment of football injuries?

Although football players are an expensive commodity, their careers are often short and sometimes even shorter if they suffer a severe injury. Even the coolest footballer can break out into a sweat at the mere mention of an ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) injury. Thanks to advances in sports science and technology, this type of injury no longer threatens a player's career.

Wimbledon loses its usual fervour to war ban, injuries

Shorn of big names and points, Djoko, Nadal, Swiatek and Serena will look to bring spark back to the ChampionshipsLONDON: The weather forecast for the championships is cloudy; it's also a reflection of things on the ground. Wimbledon 2022 kicks off on Monday without Russian and Belarussian players and sans the currency of ranking points. The men's top-10 - world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev and compatriot Andrey Rublev are paying the prize for nationality and No. 2 Alexander Zverev is injured - looks significantly tapered. The women's heft will be without last year's semifinalist No. 6 Aryna Sabalenka, French Open semifinalist Daria Kasatkina and No. 20 Victoria Azarenka, all for reasons of flag and country. Roger Federer, the eight-time champion, will miss the tournament for the first time since he debuted here 23 summers ago. The 40-yearold is pushing an ageing frame to get match fit after an injury enforced break of 12-months and counting. Naomi Osaka, a former No. 1, whose burgeoning business interests contrasts with her appearances on the tennis court. The Japanese will sit out of what she called an 'exhibition' because of her Achilles. The All England Lawn Tennis Club took a stand on the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the ATP and WTA Tours hit back with the sharpest shot in the gunroom - the prize of points. While the target was the grass-court major, it is the players who've been hit the hardest - some more than others, unable even to defend their gains from 2021.

Self-doubts had crept in post Tokyo Olympics due to knee injuries, but now I am the same Bajrang of 2018 & '19, says Bajrang Punia

Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next month. “I realised that my body had become slow, my attacking moves during competitive bouts lacked zing, I can’t move rapidly on the mat. Even after the Tokyo Olympics, I couldn’t get over my injury concerns. For the next 8-9 months, my mind would only think about the knee injury that I had suffered. There was always this fear of getting injured again, which affected my game," Bajrang, the reigning CWG and Asian Games champion, told media in an interaction facilitated by the SAI. "It restricted my movement during bouts as I would refrain from going all-out against an opponent. Then, last month, I went for some medical tests to clear my self-doubts. The tests were related to my speed, stamina, flexibility and power. Some were done at the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) Sonepat centre while the others were conducted at a private university. It helped me a lot, as I was back to being the same Bajrang which people used to admire during 2018 and ’19 when there were no injury concerns as such.”
