India vs England 5th Test: Sunil Gavaskar Weighs In On Edgbaston Pitch After England's Record Chase

The Indian bowling attack was completely dismantled on day and 5 of the Edgbaston Test as the duo of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow slammed unbeaten centuries to guide England to their highest successful chase in Test cricket as Ben Stokes' side chased down the 378-run target with 7 wickets in hand. The Indian pacers got no help from the wickets as the England batters made merry on a flat track.

India vs England, 1st T20I: When And Where To Watch Live Telecast, Live Streaming

India and England face-off in the first T20I of the three-match series at the Ageas Bowl Stadium in Southampton. India will be boosted by the return of skipper Rohit Sharma, who had missed the fifth Test after testing positive for Covid last month. England, on the other hand, will see the start of a new era in white-ball cricket with Jos Buttler replacing recently-retired Eoin Morgan at the helm. Buttler has been in dazzling form with the bat, and will now look to succeed as England's white-ball captain.

India vs England 5th Test: Report card of India's top 4 in Test cricket in the last one year

Team India were leading 2-1 from the series played in August-September last year. Four of the five Tests were completed at that time, with one ending in a draw, led by Virat Kohli. A draw or a win in the rescheduled fifth Test would have given India another piece of silverware to add to their cabinet, but England batting stalwart and former captain Joe Root and the in-form Jonny Bairstow had different plans.

India vs England T20Is Preview: India Look To Identify Best XI For World Cup

Experimentation will go out of the window as India will get down to finalising their best eleven for the World Cup during the three-match T20 series against an ultra-aggressive England, beginning here on Thursday. Skipper Rohit Sharma, who missed the fifth Test in Birmingham after contracting COVID-19, will be travelling to the port city on Wednesday and is expected to feature in the series-opener. Test players including Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant will join the T20 squad from the second game onwards.

India vs England: The Report Card Of The Edgbaston Test

The Jasprit Bumrah-led Indian cricket team promised much, but ultimately delivered too little in the rescheduled fifth Test against England at Edgbaston. The visitors had two centurions and their fast bowlers looked a more disciplined bunch early on, only to flounder when it mattered the most. As the Test progressed, India's grip loosened and ultimately ended in England registering their highest-ever successful chase in Tests. Chasing 378 in the fourth innings, few would have given England a chance. But some lacklustre bowling by India led to England doing the improbable.

India vs England: "A Shock For Indian Team," Says Ajit Agarkar As England Chase Down Record 378 In Edgbaston Test

England on Sunday registered their highest-ever successful chase in the fourth innings of a Test match with their seven-wicket win over India in the rescheduled fifth and final match. The game at Edgbaston, Birmingham saw a superb comeback from the hosts as they won it despite conceding a first-innings lead of 132 runs to India. In the final innings of the match, England needed to chase down 378 runs and they did that quite easily, courtesy of unbeaten centuries from Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow.

India vs England 5th Test: Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow slam unbeaten hundreds as England beat India to level series 2-2

Jonny Bairstow (114*; 145 balls, 15x4, 1x6) and Joe Root (142*; 173 balls, 19x4, 1x6) and their unbroken partnership of 269 in just 52.3 overs helped England chase down the highest ever fourth-innings total on English soil on a heady Day Five in Birmingham on Tuesday. The result denied India a series win, that looked possible at the end of Day Three when they were 257 ahead with seven wickets left and had clinched seven sessions out of the nine played. That happened because England were both “braver” and “better” than India, especially on the last two days. And they had two in-form, class batsmen, who, armed with clarity in the dressing room, were prepared to play their strokes, which negated a quality seam attack. Bairstow, who scored his second hundred of the match and his sixth in his last eight, having scored only six in the previous 79, was named man of the match. Root, England’s talisman and perhaps the best batter in the world now, took home the man-of-the -series honours with 737 runs and four hundreds at a stunning average of 105.28. His nine Test tons are the most that any player has scored against India.

India vs England: Baz and the red-ball revolution

cricket would be played. Martin Crowe figured that the first 15 overs of the game against the new ball was the time to attack with the bat, a theory that stunned the cricket world and took the Kiwis to the semis, till they were stopped by Inzamam ul Haq. Cut to 2015 ODI World Cup and here was Brendon McCullum, nicknamed Baz, who was hell-bent on bringing about another change.
