India vs Sri Lanka: Dasun Shanaka Wants More Consistency From Top-Order

Let down by his batters in Australia, Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka wants more consistency from the top-order in the three-match T20 series against India, beginning on Thursday. The 1-4 scoreline would suggest otherwise but Sri Lanka were competitive in the recent five-match series in Australia. The outing also gave Sri Lanka a good idea of the conditions and combination going into the World Cup Down Under later this year. However, Sri Lanka's top-order failed to live up to the expectations in Australia.

Rohit Sharma "More Than Happy" To Groom Team India's Future Captains

Rohit Sharma said Wednesday he was happy to help train possible successors following his recent appointment as India's cricket captain across all formats in place of Virat Kohli. The star batsman was named Test captain on Saturday -- he was already white-ball skipper -- but since he will turn 35 in April pundits do not expect his tenure to be a long one. India's cricket board has identified three possible candidates all in their 20s to follow him eventually -- Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. "I won't have that much of a role of telling them each and everything, obviously they are all mature cricketers but someone needs to be around them to help and guide them in difficult situations and (I am) more than happy to do that," Rohit told his first press conference after taking over the Test job.

Keep Scoring In Ranji Trophy, Opportunities Will Follow, Says Rohit Sharma To India Aspirants

Indian captain Rohit Sharma on Wednesday advised young batters aspiring to represent the country and currently playing in Ranji Trophy to keep scoring runs and not worry about selection as opportunities are bound to arise. India U-19 World Cup-winning skipper Yash Dhull and Mumbai's Sarfaraz Khan are among those who have scored centuries in the opening round of Ranji Trophy. "All I can tell them is keep scoring runs and the opportunity will arise as it has for (Hanuma) Vihari and Shreyas Iyer, Shubhman Gill and all those guys, who are part of the test team now," Rohit said on the eve of the first T20I against Sri Lanka.

Rohit Sharma Names 3 Younger India Teammates "Looked Upon As Leaders"

India skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday said that the likes of KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant are looked upon as leaders within the group. Last week, Rohit was named as the Test skipper. Chetan Sharma, the Chairman of the Selection Committee had said that the management is looking at Rohit to groom future leaders and he also spoke on how the right-handed batter is an ideal candidate to lead the side. "I won't have that much of a role in telling them each and everything, they all are mature enough, it is just when someone needs to be there around them to guide them, I will be more than happy to do that. It is how we have come through the ranks, we were groomed by someone else. It is a natural process, everyone goes through this," said Rohit during a virtual press conference.

Sri Lanka Spinner Wanindu Hasaranga Remains In Isolation, Will Miss T20 Series vs India

Ruled out of the T20I series against India after being infected with COVID-19, Sri Lanka's star leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga's isolation in Melbourne has been extended as he returned another positive result for the virus. Sri Lanka and India will play in a three-match T20 series beginning with the opener here on Thursday. "Wanindu Hasaranga, who was in isolation after contracting COVID-19, has once again returned a positive result when a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) was conducted on the player yesterday (22nd February)," a release from Sri Lanka Cricket said.
