The BCCI selection Committee on Friday named Mohammed Shami as injured Jasprit Bumrah's replacement in India's T20 World Cup squad. "The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Mohammed Shami as Jasprit Bumrah's replacement in India's ICC Men's T20 World Cup squad. Shami has reached Australia and will link up with the squad in Brisbane ahead of the warm-up matches," BCCI secretary Jay Shah was quoted in a press release.

BCCI Could Lose Rs 955 Crore If ICC Doesn't Get Tax Exemption From Government For Hosting 2023 World Cup: Report

The BCCI could lose around Rs 955 crore (USD 116 million) if the central government sticks to its decision to levy 21.84 percent tax surcharge on ICC's broadcast revenue from the 2023 ODI World Cup, according to a Board report. India is to host next year's 50-over showpiece in October-November. Tax surcharge refers to "an additional charge, fee, or tax that is added to the cost of a good or service beyond the initially quoted price". A surcharge is often added to an existing tax and is not included in the stated price of the good or service. As per ICC norm, the host nation is required to get tax exemption from the government for hosting tournaments organised by the global body.

Mohammed Shami Replaces Injured Jasprit Bumrah In India's T20 World Cup Squad

Mohammed Shami has replaced injured Jasprit Bumrah in the 15-member Indian cricket squad for the T20 World Cup 2022, starting October 16 in Australia. Shami was initially named in the standby list for the T20 World Cup squad but a back injury ruled Bumrah out of the mega event and that opened the doors for the veteran pacer. Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur have been named as backups and will travel to Australia shortly. Deepak Chahar was also in race for the spot left vacant by Bumrah but his struggle with injury of late kept him out of contention. India start their T20 World Cup campaign on October 23 with a match against arch-rivals Pakistan.

"Three Spinners Is Too Many": Ex-India Bowling Coach Bharat Arun Wanted This Player In T20 WC Instead

India's 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup looks solid on paper but not all experts and former cricketers are convinced with the sort of combinations that the selectors have picked. There remain those who feel that India have picked far too many spinners for the showpiece event. Even India's former bowling coach Bharat Arun is of the opinion that three spinners are 'far too many' as only one of them will feature in the playing XI at a given point of time. Instead, Arun wanted the selectors to take express pacer Umran Malik to Australia.
