Their lead had ballooned to 296 at the end of Day 3 and for India to have any chance of winning, they need to restrict their lead to as low as possible. Australia are in control of the proceedings against India in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) Final at The Oval. At stumps on Day 2, Australia were 123/4 and leading India by 296 runs. After posting a total of 469 in the first innings, the Pat Cummis-led side restricted India to a below-par total of 296. While the Indian team did put up a fightback on Day 3, the ball remains in Australia's court with two full days of cricket to be played. Despite their team being on the backfoot for the majority of the match, the fans of the Team India have come in huge numbers to support them.

Battling a finger injury, India's saviour Ajinkya Rahane on Friday dispelled doubts about his involvement with the bat in his team's second innings of the World Test Championship final against Australia in London. Rahane, who made a memorable 89 in his comeback Test after 18 months, hoped that the finger injury he sustained on Thursday would not affect his batting in the second innings. "Don't think it will affect (my) batting (in India's second innings)," Rahane told the broadcaster at the end of the third day's play.
