Hockey India elections: Dilip Tirkey favourite to become president; Bhola Nath frontrunner for secretary general post
Tirkey, who is the country’s most capped player with 412 international appearances, has challengers for the president’s post, with the Uttar Pradesh hockey body’s chief, Rakesh Katyal, and Hockey Jharkhand’s head Bhola Nath throwing their hats in the ring. But, as things stood on Monday, Katyal was contemplating withdrawing his nomination in support of Tirkey, while Bhola Nath could be rewarded with the secretary general’s chair for supporting Batra during his difficult times. Tirkey would then be left as a sole heir to the chair, after the HI was placed under the Committee of Administrators’ (CoA) for violating the provisions of the national sports code.
