Harmanpreet has been a central figure in the resurgence of the Indian team in recent years. His performance was not only vital to the side's bronze medal success at the Tokyo Olympics, but also saw the 26-year-old earn the title of FIH Men's Player of the Year 2021.

On Debut, India Drub China 7-1 In Women's FIH Pro League

Sushila Chanu scored a brace as the Indian women's hockey team made a grand debut at the FIH Pro League, hammering China 7-1 in the first game of the two-leg tie on Monday. Chanu (47th, 52nd minutes) converted two penalty strokes while Navneet Kaur (5th), Neha (12), Vandana Katariya (40th), Sharmila Devi (48th) and Gurjit Kaur (50th) netted one each to hand India a convincing win. China's lone goal was scored from a field effort by Xue Deng in the 43rd minute. With the win, the Indian women's hockey team moved to the third position in the FIH Pro League points table, with three points and a goal difference of plus six.

PR Sreejesh Becomes Second Indian To Win World Games Athlete Of The Year Award

Veteran India hockey goalkeeper PR Srejeesh on Monday won the prestigious World Games Athlete of the Year for his 2021 performances, becoming only the second Indian to receive the accolade. In 2020, Indian women's hockey captain Rani Rampal became the first Indian to win the honour for her 2019 show. Sreejesh beat competition from sport climber Alberto Ginés LOpez of Spain and Italy's wushu player Michele Giordano for the award. "I'm very honoured to win this award. First of all, a big thank you to FIH for nominating me for this award, and secondly thanks to all the Indian hockey lovers around the world, who voted for me," Sreejesh said in a statement.
