Top seeded players, including Daksh Jagesia and Yash Kapadi, made winning starts in the All India Chess Masters Mumbai FIDE Masters Classical tournament on Saturday. Jagesia, playing with the black pieces, defeated Mayan Jha 1-0 on the top board. On the second board, Kapadi defeated Sandeep Arth with the white pieces. Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will have the company of three other compatriots in the Doha leg of the prestigious Diamond League Meeting on May 16 as the country will have maximum representation ever in a DL event. Chopra, who won the title here in 2023 (88.67m) and finished second in 2024 (88.36m), will be joined by Kishore Jena in the men's javelin throw. Jena took part in 2024 also and had finished ninth with a throw of 76.31m. Sevilla players were forced to spend the night at the club's training ground as angry supporters protested outside on Saturday night. Young Indian shuttlers Ayush Shetty and Unnati Hooda continued to impress at the Taipei Open Super 300 badminton tournament, beating their respective rivals in tough three-game contests to progress to semifinals of men's and women's singles events in Taipei on Friday. Taking the court first, Unnati, the 2022 Odisha Masters and 2023 Abu Dhabi Masters champion, fought hard for 52 minutes to get the better of local shuttler Hung Yi-Ting 21-8 19-21 21-19 in the women's singles quarterfinals.
