RIYADH: Al-Hilal moved five points clear at the top of the Roshn Saudi League on Friday with a 3-1 win over Al-Ahli to record a seventh victory in succession in all competitions The 18-time champions may be without Neymar for the rest of the season but looked ominous as they saw off the challenge from the star-studded visitors.
RIYADH: Tyson Fury compared himself to Novak Djokovic after going face-to-face with Francis Ngannou at their weigh-in on Friday. The towering Brit dismissed the punching threat posed by Ngannou, a former UFC star who will make his professional boxing debut Saturday at age 37. “It’s like a table tennis champion facing Djokovic in the Wimbledon final — totally different,” the WBC heavyweight champion said. The 35-year-old Fury weighed-in at 277.7 pounds while his Cameroonian opponent was 272.1 pounds after both men stepped on the scale in street clothes. Moments later, Fury pushed his forehead into Ngannou, who responded with a chest-bump to give himself some space. “I have played this game so long. This can’t get to me.
RIYADH: Spectators in attendance and fans watching around the world were treated to some scintillating golf on day one of the Aramco Team Series presented by Public Investment Fund – Riyadh.
A second round 69 has Tom McKibbin currently inside the cut and half a dozen shots adrift of the clubhouse leaders at the midway point of the weather-disrupted Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
Stephanie Meadow and Leona Maguire sit inside the top 30 at the Maybank Championship in Kuala Lumpur, while Jasmine Suwannapura enjoys the lead at the half-way stage.
Organisers for the Masters and Open Championship on Thursday dismissed the notion that they would create automatic major exemptions for LIV golfers next year. "While we do not at this time anticipate making any changes in 2024, we do always look at them and we will continue to do that," said Augusta National Golf Club chairman Fred Ridley. "Our qualification criteria are very much dynamic, and we adjust to what we feel is in the bestinterests of the tournament representing the best players in the world, so we always look at that." When a reporter suggested it would be a "shame" if LIV Golf's individual season-long points winner Talor Gooch wasn't able to compete in the Masters, Ridley responded: "They made decisions based on what they thought was in the best interests of their golf careers, and we certainly respect that." Last April, 18 LIV Golf members competed in the Masters -- with Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson finishing in a tie for second place, four strokes behind the winner Jon Rahm. Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith are the lone LIV players currently eligible for the 2024 Masters field. R&A chief executive officer Martin Slumbers said Thursday that it was premature to discuss the qualification criteria for The Open in 2024. "There has been some speculation in the media recently, and I would say that it is completely off the mark," Slumbers said.
LIV Golf League players who were hoping the major championships would change criteria to make it easier for them to qualify for those fields probably aren't going to get their wish when it comes to the Masters.
