The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced a fresh deadline to deliver the verdict on Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat's appeal on Tuesday. Vinesh and her fans all across India might have to wait till August 16 to hear from the court after the wrestler appealed for a silver medal to be granted to her following her disqualification from the Women's 50kg freestyle final over failed weigh-in. While a delay in the verdict signals Vinesh's strengthening grip on the case, the court also has to consider the ramifications of the verdict, if given in the wrestler's favour.
This should go over well with female athletes out there who have to worry about dudes with dongs who want to steal their athletic achievements.
A bronze medal winner for India at the Paris Olympics in the 57kg freestyle wrestling category, Aman Sehrawat also had to go through plenty of hardships in order to maintain his weight. After what happened with Vinesh Phogat, with the wrestler getting disqualified ahead of her gold medal match due to a failed weigh-in, Aman and his team had to be extra cautious in order to manage weight. In fact, Aman revealed in an exclusive chat with NDTV that his weight increased by about 3.5 kilograms ahead of the second day of bouts in Paris.

Moments away from ultimate glory, Vinesh Phogat saw 'rules' denying her the opportunity to create history for India in the Paris Olympics 2024. The wrestler's disqualification from the Paris Games gold medal match in the 50kg freestyle wrestling bout sent shockwaves all across India, but the wrestler valiantly decided to challenge the result at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Ahead of the expected verdict announcement on Tuesday, it has been reported that the United World Wrestling (UWW) is opposing Vinesh's plea, citing rules.
As the Paris Olympic Games 2024 concludes, the Indian contingent returns with a low number of 6 medals, after winning seven in the Tokyo Games three years ago. Contrary to the last edition of the Olympic Games, India didn't have a single gold medal this time. Though Vinesh Phogat stood a chance at getting one, having qualified for the women's freestyle wrestling 50kg final, but her disqualification robbed the nation of that opportunity. When Abhinav Bindra, India's shooting legend, was asked about the country's lack of success, he gave an honest response.
