Furious Wolves boss Gary O'Neil said bad refereeing decisions were hurting his reputation and "people's livelihoods" after his team were on the wrong end of more VAR controversy in their 3-2 Premier League defeat at Fulham on Monday. Willian scored two penalties -- including a stoppage-time winner -- while Alex Iwobi's early strike for Fulham was cancelled out by Matheus Cunha and Wolves' Hwang Hee-chan also netted from the spot.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe believes Tuesday's pivotal Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain will be a "defining moment" in the English team's season. Newcastle stunned PSG 4-1 in the first meeting at St James' Park but have slid from top to bottom in the standings after successive defeats to Borussia Dortmund and would be unable to reach the last 16 if they lose to PSG. "This is the defining moment of our Champions League campaign and we'll give everything," Howe told a pre-match press conference in Paris on Monday.
Surprise package Girona failed to return to the top of La Liga on Monday after they were held 1-1 draw at home by Athletic Bilbao. Winger Viktor Tsygankov put the hosts ahead 10 minutes after half time but Inaki Williams scored 12 minutes later to claim a point for the away side. Girona trail league leaders Real Madrid on goal difference after dropping points for just the third time this season, while Athletic climbed to fifth spot. Athletic had the better of the first half and their best chance fell to Gorka Guruzeta but the striker poked his shot straight at Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
