'I am slowly getting my fitness back' - Leon Madsen winning fitness fight to close in on Speedway Grand Prix top spot

Leon Madsen has revealed he is slowly getting back to fitness after suffering with the flu in recent weeks, and is eyeing up top spot in Speedway GP. The 33-year old battled through illness and registered 12 championship points in the season-opening FIM Speedway GP of Croatia at the end of April, and after a two-week recovery period, stepped up again to claim a further 18 championship points in Warsaw last Saturday, where he finished second in the final behind Max Fricke. Spanish rider Isaac Viñales has been named as Bradley Smith’s replacement for next month’s 24H SPA EWC Motos. The former Moto2 and Supersport World Championship racer will join French squad Moto Ain, run by Pierre Chapuis, for the second round of the 2022 FIM Endurance World Championship as Briton Smith recovers from injuries sustained in a crash at the start of the 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans in April. Ad/> Viñales, the 28-year-old cousin of MotoGP ace Maverick Viñales, is new to the EWC but got the opportunity to sample the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps during pre-event testing earlier this week.

EWC Spa testing concludes with BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team on top

Two days of FIM Endurance World Championship testing at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps concluded today (Wednesday) with the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team on top. It set a 2m20.887s during Tuesday’s running on the 6.985-kilometre track, which is gearing up to host the 24H SPA EWC Motos from 4-5 June, before going even faster during Wednesday afternoon’s final session in a time of 2m20.344s.

BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team has set the benchmark time for its rivals to beat during the first day of group testing at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in preparation for next month’s 24H SPA EWC Motos. The Belgium-based team, managed by former ace rider Werner Daemen, completed Tuesday’s action on the 6.985-kilometre Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps with a best lap of 2m20.887s, posted during the third and final session of the day.
