Tennis fans around the world witnessed a bizarre incident on Wednesday after Sweden's Mikael Ymer smashed his racket his racket on the umpire's chair following an argument over a line call. The incident took place during the Lyon Open match between Ymer and France's Arthur Fils. Resulting which, Ymer got disqualified from the last 16 of the ATP 250 event. The 53rd ranked player argued with the umpire, saying that he did not get up to check whether the ball bounced inside the line, which caused the Swede a point. The umpire had stated that he saw the ball bouncing inside the line.
Cameron Norrie continued his title defence at the Lyon Open with a 6-2 2-6 6-1 quarter-final win over Sebastian Baez, but fellow Brit Jack Draper suffered defeat to Francisco Cerundolo. The two British players were on course to meet each other in the last four, but Draper’s 6-4 4-6 3-6 loss to the Argentine fourth seed ended his run.
Top seed Carlos Alcaraz will face a qualifier in the first round of the French Open. Alcaraz is among the favourites to win at Roland-Garros, alongside Novak Djokovic, after 14-time champion Rafael Nadal announced he would not defend his title owing to injury.

Mikael Ymer was disqualified from the Lyon Open for furiously smashing his racquet on the umpire’s chair. The Swedish player was playing against Arthur Fils in the round of 16 when he got into a heated altercation with umpire Rogerio Santos over a line call at 5-5 in the opening set. Ad Ymer was adamant Fils’ shot was wide of the sideline before he casually returned long beyond the baseline, and was in disbelief when the Frenchman was awarded the point.
