Salima Tete to lead India in FIH Women's Junior World Cup

Salima Tete was on Thursday named captain of the 20-member Indian team for the FIH Women's Junior World Cup, starting in Potchefstroom, South Africa on April 1. Defender Ishika Chadhary will serve as Tete's deputy for the tournament which was postponed from December last year to 2022 due to the omicron-threat in South Africa. Mid-fielders Sharmila Devi, Lalremsiami, who were part of the Indian women's team that finished fourth in the Tokyo Olympics, are also in the squad.

Moirangthem Rabichandra Singh to make debut, Gurjant Singh returns in Indian hockey team for Argentina tie

Moirangthem Rabichandra Singh is expected to make his senior debut after being included in the 22-member Indian men's hockey squad for the double-leg FIH Pro League tie against Argentina even as striker Gurjant Singh has also returned to the set-up from a brief injury lay-off. The match against the world number six side will be played on March 19 and 20 at at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Rabichandra, who was part of the Indian junior men's squad at the FIH Junior World Cup, will be the lone new face in the squad announced by Hockey India on Wednesday.

Early goals from Navneet Kaur (4th minute) and Carlotta Sippel (5th) set the tone for what was an exciting contest between world No. 9 India and world No. 5 Germany. Both teams wasted numerous scoring chances to finish tied after the end of the regulation 60 minutes, forcing the match into a shootout where the Germans did just enough to come out on top.
