The Indian women's hockey team has reclaimed its best-ever sixth place ranking in the world following its stupendous show in the just-concluded Asian Champions Trophy and the Hangzhou Asian Games. India are now placed sixth ahead of England with 2368.83 rating points. The Indian women were placed eighth before the Asian Games but the bronze medal at the continental showpiece and the title triumph at Asian Champions Trophy in Ranchi, where they remained unbeaten, has catapulted the side back to its best-ever world ranking, last achieved during the FIH Pro League in June last year.

The Indian women's hockey team has a tough task at hand as it has been clubbed alongside world No.5 Germany in the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers to be held in Ranchi from January 13 to 19. At No.6, India are the second-best side in the India leg of the Olympic qualifiers with the other teams being New Zealand (9th), Japan (11th), Chile (14th), United States (15th), Italy (19th) and the Czech Republic (25th).

The development comes after the Chinese Women's Hockey Team earned direct qualification to the Paris 2024 Olympics by winning the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2022. Women's FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers will be held at Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh AstroTurf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand from January 13 to January 19, 2024. Apart from India, seven national teams from across the globe will travel to Ranchi for the Women's FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers in their bid to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics. It must be noted that the nations that will finish in the top three will confirm their berth in the next year's Olympics.

Olympic Solidarity holds certification course for hockey coaches

About 30 coaches nationwide are participating in an Olympic Solidarity technical course for coaches in Abuja from October 8 to 14, 2023, the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has said.

Oman To Host Hockey Olympic Qualifier In Place Of Pakistan: FIH

Oman will now host one of the men's hockey Olympic Qualifiers after the world body (FIH) withdrew the tournament from Pakistan due to infighting between the national federation and the country's Sports Board. The International Hockey Federation announced that tournament will be held in Muscat from January 15 to 21 next year. The other three FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers will be played in China (women's - January 15-21 2024) and Spain (women's and men's - January 13-21).
