FIH Pro League: Indian women lose 1-2 against Germany in shootout

Indian women's hockey team lost 1-2 to Germany in a shootout after both the teams were locked at 1-1 at the end of the regulation time in the first match of the double-leg FIH Pro League on Saturday. Early goals from Navneet Kaur (4th minute) and Carlotta Sippel (5th) set the tone for what was an exciting contest between world No. 9 India and world No. 5 Germany. Both teams wasted numerous scoring chances to finish tied after the end of the regulation 60 minutes, forcing the match into a shootout where the Germans did just enough to come out on top. Navneet scored the only goal for India in the shoot-out even as Sharmila Devi, Neha Goyal, Laremsiami and Monika wasted their chances.

FIH Pro League: Indian Women Look To Return To Winning Ways vs Germany

The Indian women's hockey team would look to return to winning ways against a higher-ranked but out-of-touch Germany in the two-legged tie of the FIH Pro League, starting with the first match on Saturday. Playing their debut season in the Pro League, the Indian women made a fine start to their campaign, beating China 7-1 and 2-1 in their opening two games in Muscat. The Indians, ranked ninth in the world, then defeated world number 6 Spain 2-1 at home before slumping to a 3-4 defeat in the return leg last month. But despite the loss, the Indian women are well placed in the FIH Pro League standings as they are currently at the third position with nine points from four games, which includes three wins and a loss.

FIH Pro League: Indian women look to bounce back against Germany

FIH Pro League when they went down to Spain in the second game of their double header in Bhubaneswar last month. The team attacked well and scored three goals, but their defence let them down in the end. They will now look to get back to winning ways when they take on Germany in another double header on Saturday and Sunday at Kalinga Stadium. It's going to be a tough task though. Germany are not only the higher-ranked team, they also beat India the last time they played at Tokyo Olympics. But a lot has changed since then and the Indian team is confident of bouncing back from the loss and beating the world No. 5. "We made a few mistakes in the last match (against Spain) and we have worked on it over the two weeks. Also, since Germany are a strong defensive team, we practised different attacking tactics," said captain Savita during a virtual press conference on Friday.

Indian Men Make Remarkable Comeback To Down Spain 5-4 In FIH Pro League Hockey

The Indian men's hockey team made a remarkable comeback from three goals down to eke out a sensational 5-4 win over Spain in an edge-of-the-seat thriller in the FIH Pro League in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. Up against world no. 9 Spain, Tokyo Olympics bronze medallists India were stunned when the visitors took a 4-1 lead through a hat-trick from skipper Marc Miralles (20th, 23rd, 40th minutes) and Pau Cunill (14th). But the hosts scored through Harmanpreet Singh (15th, 60th), Shilanand Lakra (41st), Shamsher Singh (43rd) and Varun Kumar (55th) to register one of the most memorable comebacks in the history of the game. India now have registered four wins out of five outings in the FIH Pro League.

Spain hand Indian women first loss of FIH Pro League

Savita stopped a penalty stroke and made numerous saves but still couldn't keep the Spaniards at bay as the Indian women's hockey team were handed their first loss of their FIH Pro League campaign at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. Having earned a comeback win on Saturday, India did their best to do the same on Sunday, but it wasn't to be as Xantal Gine scored from a penalty corner in the last minute of the match to help Spain beat India 4-3. While India lost the game, coach Janneke Schopman must be happy with the way her team attacked.
