Yann Ehrlacher gave a firm glimpse of the form that has carried him to back-to-back WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup titles with a last-gasp second place finish in Race 1 at WTCR Race of Hungary last weekend. The Cyan Racing Lynk & Co shrugged off mid-race worries, hunted down and then overtook Nathanaël Berthon in the closing stages of the opening counter at the Hungaroring.
After a competitive weekend at the Hungaroring for the second round of the FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup Hyundai Motorsport was able to reflect on its strongest showing in the 2022 season and as vast improvement at a circuit where it struggled with speed in the inaugural PURE ETCR season less than 12 months ago. After setting competitive times in Qualifying, both Mikel Azcona and Kevin Ceccon secured positions in Pool FAST’s Quarter Final 1. Azcona was able to successfully overtake the CUPRA of Mattias Ekström, but lost the victory in the final two corners of the Quarter Final after a small mistake.

Azcona, who also won Race 2 at WTCR Clean Fuels for All Race of France last month, converted his Race 1 pole into an impressive victory before completing his WTCR Race of Hungary weekend with eighth place in Race 2 driving a Goodyear-equipped Hyundai Elantra N TCR. Attila Tassi said he was “just disappointed” that he was not able to give the home fans the results he wanted to following a tough Hungaroring weekend for one of the rising stars of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup. The 22-year-old finished P14 in both races at WTCR Race of Hungary aboard his LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler Honda Civic Type R TCR.

The Comtoyou DHL Team Audi Sport ace had trailed leader Mikel Azcona for much of the opening WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup contest at the Hungaroring yesterday but couldn’t quite hold on to the runner-up spot, taking third instead behind King of WTCR Yann Ehrlacher. Rob Huff said his push for the Race 2 win at WTCR Race of Hungary yesterday helped to make up for the error that cost him and his Zengő Motorsport team a shot at victory in the corresponding fixture last season. Huff qualified on pole position when the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup visited the Hungaroring last August only for damage sustained when he nudged a tyre stack in Race 1 preventing him from lining up on the grid for Race 2.
